The US Environmental Protection Agency has set new restrictions on the use of three commonly used pesticides, including the highly controversial chlorpyrifos.

    The environmental protection agency allows the continued use of chlorpyrifos, malathion and diazinon on various occasions on the premise of adopting the new protective measures on the label. The final decision was based on the final biological opinion of the fish and wildlife administration. The Bureau found that potential threats to endangered species could be mitigated by additional restrictions.

    The agency said in a press release: "these measures can not only protect the species listed in the protection list, but also reduce the potential exposure and ecological impact of malathion, chlorpyrifos and diazinon in these areas when used." It takes about 18 months for the EPA to approve the revised label of the product registration holder.

    Farmers and other users use these organophosphorus chemicals to control a variety of pests on various crops. As it is related to brain damage in children, the environmental protection agency banned the use of Chlorpyrifos in food crops in February this year, but allowed it to be used for mosquito control and other purposes.

    According to the new restrictions, diazinon should not be sprayed in the air, and chlorpyrifos should not be used to control ants on a large scale.

    Other protective measures are designed to prevent pesticides from entering the water body and to ensure that the overall load of chemicals is reduced.

    The latest measures do not involve human health risks, and EPA will assess them through a separate procedure. The aforementioned dangers have intensified the debate on chlorpyrifos. Many Republicans in Congress said that the ban deprived farmers of an important pest management tool.

    The House Appropriations Committee led by the Democratic Party approved its report on the proposed EPA spending bill for fiscal 2023 this week, supporting the restrictions on chlorpyrifos.

    The report attached to the bill pointed out: "many studies have found a link between the use of chlorpyrifos and brain injury in children, and the Committee recognized the results of these studies. It is hoped that the environmental protection agency will fulfill its obligations to protect human health and the environment.
