According to the latest research by Kynetec Consulting, the Brazilian nematicide market has grown tenfold after eight harvest periods. These inputs sold 1.6 billion Brazilian real (approximately 2.09 billion RMB) in the 2021-2022 cycle, compared to 160 million Brazilian real in the 2014-2015 cycle.

    According to Kynetec's data, soybeans accounted for 52% (806 million Brazilian reais) of the nematicide business in the previous harvest season, followed by sugarcane, accounting for 23% (363 million Brazilian reais). Corn, cotton, coffee, potatoes, and 14 other surveyed crops account for 25% of the nematicide market share, which is approximately 400 million Brazilian reais.

    In the evaluation focusing on the treatment target area, the coverage of nematicides has increased from 1.5 million hectares to 21 million hectares since the study was conducted. Among them, soybean had the highest potential treatment area (PAT) proportion in the previous harvest season: 64%, approximately 13.4 million hectares. Corn and cotton rank second, accounting for 13% each, with approximately 2.73 million hectares (a total of 5.46 million hectares). Sugar cane accounts for 1.27 million hectares, equivalent to 6% of PAT.

    Regarding the adoption of nematicide products by farmers, 99% of cotton planting areas have used nematicides by 2022, compared to only 9% in 2015. The proportion in soybeans increased from 2% to 24%, while in sugarcane it increased from 6% to 13%, and in corn it increased from 1% to 13%. The report points out that even crops with smaller planting areas have used nematicides. By 2022, 76%, 67%, and 39% of the areas of carrots, garlic, and potatoes will be covered by at least one nematicide product, respectively. Nematodes severely damage plant roots, and in the face of potential losses, growers choose to invest in preventive management.

    Another data from FarmTrak survey shows that biocides are at the forefront of the market. This type of product sold 1.2 billion reais, equivalent to 75% of the entire nematicide market, while the market share of chemical nematicides is 25% (395 million reais).

    Kynetec experts also pointed out that they investigated the incidence rate of nematodes in all agricultural areas of the country, and farmers from Serrado showed outstanding performance, leading in purchasing nematode control products. The region has brought in 82% of the market revenue for nematicides, which is 1.3 billion Brazilian reais . Nearly half (617 million reais) are concentrated in Mato Grosso Oblast.
