According to the news released by the Russian Ministry of economic development, the Council of Eurasian Economic Commission held a meeting on July 14 to discuss and adopt the draft "road map for the establishment of a unified organic agricultural market of Eurasian Economic Union", which is to be submitted to the Eurasian intergovernmental Council meeting in August for approval.
Russia's Ministry of economic development said that taking measures to develop the organic agricultural integration of the Eurasian Economic Union will help develop the export potential of the member countries of the Union and improve their competitiveness in overseas markets. Russia's organic agricultural production law has come into effect on January 1, 2020. The use of agricultural chemicals, pesticides, antibiotics, animal growth promoters and hormonal preparations is prohibited by law, except for those permitted according to Russian national, Eurasian Economic Union and international standards. The law also prohibits the use of embryo transfer technology, cloning technology and genetic engineering methods, genetic engineering modification and transgenic biotechnology, as well as products produced by genetic engineering modification and transgenic biotechnology.
In May 2021, the Russian Ministry of Agriculture said that it was working out a production strategy for organic agriculture. The agricultural export center of Russia's Ministry of agriculture previously said that the global organic agricultural products market will grow by 9% annually from 2015 to 2019, and the market scale will exceed 120 billion US dollars. It is expected that there will be faster growth in the next few years, and the market size will reach US $200 billion by 2024-2025.
